Painting has absorbed Bina since early childhood. She held her first solo show at the age of 9. Her childhood was a mélange of art, craft and colours. At the age of 11, she was a part of a group show, where her vibrant child Art featured. She attributes her early initiation into the world of Art to her parents, both of whom had artistic leanings. Her wanderlust, inherited from her grandmother and parents, takes her all over the world. Painting allows her to maintain her diary on canvas.
Exposed to art in Europe at an early age, Bina drew inspiration from the Impressionists, chiefly Monet, Caillebotte and Renoir. Her last series of paintings based on Nature Abstract is inspired by a visit to Monet’s garden in Giverny. She held two solo exhibitions in Japan in 2015 and regularly participates in select group shows in India and abroad. Bina earned a Diploma from the Indian Art Institute, Mumbai and a two year Diploma in Textile Design from The Rachana School of Architecture, Mumbai, after completing her Masters in Economics from The University of Mumbai. She was also a faculty member at Rachana School of Architecture for a period of 2 years.
“I truly believe that paintings are a mirror of one’s moods. Sometimes, peace and serenity are reflected in my paintings, depicting my inner calm. At other times, the child in me wants to have a splash fest of colours and the outcome is vivid and vibrant. I am very moody as far as painting is concerned. As Paul Cezanne says “A work of Art which did not begin in emotion is not Art”. By and large, the works created by me are fresh and colourful, reflecting my philosophy of life.”
